Great Guitar Package!

I am a bass guitar player, and own/have owned several bass guitars, including a Fender Mustang and currently a Fender Precision (Sting signature series). I have also owned a Fender Squier (6-string) guitar before. We ordered the Starcaster guitar package for my middleschool daughter.

It's a great guitar with great sound; honestly, the sound is fantastic. And there are a lot of peripheral items included at a fabulous price. We've had no problems at all with the cord or amp, and the sound that little amp makes it really clear. Hit the overdrive, and you get a nice distortion sound. You can't control the amount of overdrive (it's either on or off), but for a beginner or for household use, it's perfect. The compact guitar stand is very stable for its size.

A few other reviewers have criticized the guitar for string buzz. Well, you can adjust the bridge very easily. The package even includes the little hex-wrench needed to make the adjustment yourself. (Anyone that pays $100 for someone else to do such minor tweaking got ripped off ... you may as well pay someone to tune it for you.)

If there is one drawback to the guitar, the edges of the frets are a little rough, something I've never encountered with a Fender product before. I find it noticible, but I wouldn't even call it uncomfortable. And certainly not so rough as to cut up your hands, as one reviewer exaggerated.

One final note, the guitar not only sounds great, it looks beautiful as well. The candy-apple red color is rich and deep (slightly darker than the picture), and the finish has no flaws at all.

I have no hesitation recommending this to any beginning or intermediate player.

Couldn't be happier with my purchase!

I purchased this for my son's 10th birthday. I was of course very leery about the fact that the name is a play on the well known Stratocaster. I am no expert in guitars, to say the least, but I can confidently say this guitar "pack" is very much worth the money! My son was absolutely ecstatic! I've had several people play it that do know guitars and they were all incredibly impressed with what we got for the money. Also, we were a little worried about the red color for a boy but we were put to ease when we received it. The pictures on amazon make it look more of a bright red than it really is. It is a great color for a boy or girl. If my daughter ever decides she wants an electric guitar for her birthday, this is what I will be getting her.

Owned for 1 month.

Comes with very loud amp, clear sound.
Beautiful guitar.
Fantastic for beginners.
Comes with all accessories needed.

If you are getting this, make sure to buy a new 1/4 cable, because the one that comes with is terrible. Also get better strings (Ernie Balls are my preference).

It does require tuning and tremolo adjustments, so make sure to read guides on the net to figure those out.

Reviewer: J. Newsum,
I was looking for an inexpensive starter guitar and found a solid one with this product. The guitar shipped quickly and arrived in good condition. Previous reviews stated the frets are unfinished, I'm not sure if that was a past issue or people being nit picky as my frets are smooth and rounded off just like any other guitar I've ever played.

The guitar is a bit heavy and the pickups aren't the best, but I expected this as the price of a strat jumps as the quality of the components goes. It is a well designed, very easy to play straight from the box beginner guitar. I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for an entry level guitar for a good price.

Great for the Money!

I bought this as a birthday gift for my husband, who has always wanted to learn to play the guitar. He LOVES it. He's been practicing all the time. The DVD that it comes with, to teach you to play, is not quite sufficient to teach (the camera angle often times makes it difficult to see where exactly the instructor's fingers are, what cords he's applying pressure to, etc...). My husband plans to sign up for private lessons, but regardless of the DVD, the guitar is awesome!
